Network Security

Ping commands can be used for attacks that mess with network services. For example, the Ping of Death sends oversized ping packets to a target system, causing it to crash or act weird (What Is a Ping of Death and Ping of Death Attack? | Fortinet, 2023). Another attack is a Ping Flood, where a system gets bombarded with a ton of ping requests, leading to a denial of service. Modern systems usually have protection, but older or unpatched ones can still be at risk. A computer virus is a nasty piece of software that spreads by attaching itself to files or programs. When you run an infected file, the virus activates and can delete files, steal personal info, or slow down your system. To protect your computer, use antivirus software and be careful about downloading files or clicking on links from unknown sources. Phishing is an online scam where attackers try to trick you into giving them personal info, like passwords or credit card numbers (What Is a Phishing Attack?, 2023). They often send fake emails or messages that look like they're from a trusted source, like your bank. These messages usually have links to fake websites designed to steal your info. To protect yourself, always double-check the sender's email address, avoid clicking on suspicious links, and never share personal info through email or messages. To keep your computer safe from viruses, make sure you have good antivirus software installed and keep it updated. This helps catch and remove viruses before they can do any damage. Also, regularly back up your important files to an external drive or cloud storage so you can recover them if needed. For phishing protection, it's important to teach people how to spot phishing attempts, like suspicious emails asking for personal info. Using email filters can also help by blocking these phishing emails before they even reach your inbox.
